First of all, let me say that my cell carrier is a decent company. Considering that I live in BFE and can get a signal in most places, and that my bill rarely exceeds $65 when I am on the phone for over 20,000 minutes a month, I really can't complain about Alltel. The MyCircle plan really pans out well for me and when I visited

at Christmas, I wasn't charged for roaming services when I was in roam the entire time. I like them. They're a great carrier, and I haven't had much of a problem with them at all, until Verizon bought them. Damn this merger.
Since Alltel has been sold to what I consider the worst of all carriers, Verizon, I have had more trouble than I could have ever expected. Half of the time, my phone never rings when I am being called, then I have a missed call a day later. My text messages aren't being delivered when I send them, but hours, sometimes days later, and it has taken to dropping calls without reason. This is especially the case when talking with my fiancée. For some reason, our calls rarely stay connected and simply end without warning, leaving us trying desperately to reach on another for extended periods of time. I have been able to handle this fairly well, but today Alltel/Verizon crossed the line.
My payment is due on the 16th of each month, and has been since I started with Alltel. However, this month my statement said that I had until the 31st. I thought it was a print error, and called the automated system several times to check the validity of this date. I assumed that with the merger, maybe they changed the date. It made little sense to me, but since I had it in print as well as repeat recordings confirming it, I thought it to be true. Boy, was I wrong because last night my nightly sleep call with Stef ended and we couldn't reach one another. Both of us figured that it was the same as it had been, our phones just refusing to connect with each other, but this morning I called her and was asked politely by a recording to contact customer service. Why didn't I have service? It made no sense to me either. I did as I was instructed to do and spoke to a very nice lady by the name of Juanita. She was very helpful, but she didn't solve my problem. I still had no service.
Apparently, because of the merger, the dates were changed in error, but those jerks at Verizon wouldn't cut me slack for
their mistake. My service was still disconnected because I trusted their date. So, I had to pay the balance due to establish service once more. I hadn't budgeted this week, but did so as I must have my phone. I need it for work, school, and because Stef is so far from me.
Seriously, I love Alltel, but I loathe Verizon. Those greedy jerks couldn't me one favor and it was their fault. Grr...
